Vintage Merano

Here is another series of luggage labels. This time we are heading to Merano, in Trentino-Alto Adige, in the province of Bolzano.

Grand hotels are set against the snowy tops of the Alpi Venoste, and sometimes you can even see the Passer torrent, a tributary of the Adige, flowing in these old advertisements. The bell tower of the Gothic Duomo of San Nicolò stands out in the panoramic views. It is a symbol of the “old city”, and one of the tallest bell towers in the region with its 83 meters of height.

At the time of these pictures, the town was a popular resort; its mild climate and quiet surroundings made it an ideal destination for elderly visitors on holiday.

Today tourists’ average age has dropped considerably. But even the younger generations can appreciate these vintage illustrations.
