Crema, Lombardy, is home to a beautiful nativity held every year since 1989 in the Sabbioni district.
One Christmas after the other, the initiative has grown as its 3,000 square meters welcome new characters – full-size, wood and gesso people and animals – and new set designs.
The entire project is a visual representation of last century’s rural environment, with taverns, schools, mills, convents, and many more traditional settings where farmers, craftsmen, and common people are placed to represent daily activities. There are over one hundred human characters in the nativity, and approximately two hundred animals.
A wonderful glimpse of Christmas in the olden days, from December 24th to the end of January.
