The Hermann Nitsch Museum in Naples

Museo Hermann Nitsch, Fondazione Morra, Napoli

Austrian artist Hermann Nitsch – born in 1938 – was one of the leading figures in Viennese Actionism, the art movement that best represented European body art in the 1960s, with close ties to international experiences in performance art and happenings.

The creative complex named after him (the “Hermann Nitsch” Museum Archive Laboratory for the Contemporary Arts) is located in a no-frills, late-1800s’ building at the heart of Naples, originally designed to be an electric power plant. It is operated by the Morra Foundation, which organizes and fosters research, activities and promotion in the field of visual communication culture.
