The Dolomites and Franz Lenhart’s snow

Franz J. Lenhart always had a strong connection with the Dolomites. The great illustrator – born in Austrian Tyrol in 1898 – achieved his first professional success in 1924, when Enit (the Italian government’s Tourism Board) bought his sketch for a poster advertising the beautiful “Pale Mountains”: “Come to the Dolomites”, it said.

That was the first of a long series of illustrations of the Dolomites that Lenhart created, to promote tourist destinations, winter sports, and hotels lucky enough to be located in the wonderful landscape of those mountains.

This series of posters is dedicated to snow: let’s follow Lenhart along the winter tracks of his art.
