Surreal chairs by Piero Fornasetti

Piero Fornasetti, sedia - Corinthian capital Chair

Here are the surreal chairs created by Piero Fornasetti (Milan, 1913-1988), a brilliant self-taught “wizard” who built his artistic career with talent and restlessness (he was expelled from Brera’s Fine Art Academy because he was unwilling to tolerate the prevailing teaching methods).

Seats and seatbacks are decorated with radiant suns, female faces hidden under ski masks, Ionic and Corinthian capitals: icons by a master who refused to go mainstream, and who achieved notoriety in the 1950s while functionalist design established itself.

Feel free to take a look, or even take a seat.
