Sleeping in a tree house, between dream and reality

“La Piantata” is located in Arlena di Castro, Viterbo, at the heart of Tuscia – a region rich in history, tradition and wonderful views.
It is a dreamlike place that brings to life one of the wishes we all had as children: to live in a house built up on a tree, completely enveloped in nature, so close to the stars we could touch them.

The property includes a B&B and is surrounded by a century-old olive grove with over 1,800 trees and twelve hectares of hills covered in lavender. In this context, two incredible little houses are nestled on centenarian trees. The first one is the Suite Bleue, eight meters from the ground in the leafy crown of a majestic oak: a little piece of heaven where you can relax and enjoy wonderful sunsets in a fairy-tale atmosphere.
The second one is the complex’s pride: the Black Cabin, a new high-tech cabana that sets the record as the biggest tree house in Europe. This 87-square-meter eco-loft offers a breathtaking, 360° view spanning all the way to the Cimini Hills and, on the background, the sea off of Tarquinia.

The house is built between the branches of a 200-year-old maritime pine, 7 meters from the ground, and was designed by La Cabane Perchée. Interiors, by designer Claudia Pelizzari of the Archiglam studio in Brescia, are anchored to materials such as Canadian cedar wood, glass and steel, paired with organic fabrics like linen and cotton. Original combinations add touches of clear luxury: the Corian and crystal shower behind the bed’s headboard, black steel and mirrored panels, LED-based lighting, as well as delightful details like bucchero walls and the motion-activated light in the walk-in closet.

The entire project was completed with no harm to the trees that embrace these unique buildings, creating an excellent example of bio-architecture and offering a superlative “glamping” experience: a mix of glamour and camping where minimal environmental impact meets huge comfort and luxury factor.
