Saints on citrus fruit wrappers: the beauty of good

There was a time when citrus fruits were wrapped in the images of saints like Francis of Assisi, Anthony the Abbot, Cosmas and Damian, Rita, Jerome, Lucy, Rosalia…

There even was Moses, the prophet of the Old Testament, with a Michelangelesque “Why don’t you speak?” – which according to legend was what the artist asked his own statue, now in Rome’s San Pietro in Vincoli – making for a bizarre short circuit between art, devotion, and advertisement.

Citrus fruits and saints: good inside and out.
