Maserati 450S, Fangio’s bazooka

Only ten of the legendary, super-powerful Maserati 450S were manufactured, between 1956 and 1958, by the luxury vehicle company headquartered in Modena.

The first model was designed by Vittorio Bellentani and Guido Tedducci, and competed in both the Mille Miglia and the Swedish Grand Prix in its first year. Its reincarnations participated in various races, including the Venezuelan Sports Car Grand Prix and the 12 Hours of Sebring – which it won in 1957, driven by Manuel Fangio, who nicknamed it “the bazooka”.

The single-seater in this gallery is the model revised by Bologna-born engineer, Medardo Fantuzzi.
