“La Bonissima”: Modena’s best

La Bonissima, festival del gusto e dei prodotti tipici modenesi

La Bonissima

For over five centuries, La Bonissima has looked down from the height of its pedestal onto Modena’s Piazza Grande. Yet it’s only since 2010 that a food and wine festival has been named after the mysterious medieval statue placed in the corner of the city’s Palazzo Comunale.

The 6th edition of the “La Bonissima” festival will be held from October 14th to 16th, 2016, and will fill the central square of one of Emilia’s most famous destinations with the flavors and aromas of Modena’s typical treats. The best wine and food will be corralled here for three days, sparing you the endless searches around the region and country you would have to embark on to find them during the rest of the year.

It’s worth a visit, if nothing else to hear the stories and legends inspired by this 1.37-meter-tall sculpture.

Some say it was meant to remind people to be honest in trade; others that it represents a rich and generous noblewoman who, during a period of famine, strove to feed the people of Modena; others yet say it is a portrait of Matilda of Canossa…

And at La Bonissima, you can listen to these stories while tasting “gnocco fritto”, “crescentina”, prosciutto, tortellini, pecorino cheese…
