Giovanni Michelotti’s atelier

Interview with Edgardo Michelotti, son of the greatest car designer in the world

by Giuseppe Frangi

“Italian Ways” had the opportunity to visit Giovanni Michelotti’s “atelier” in Turin, where wonderful drafts by the Milanese designer have been kept for decades: drawings of cars that would go down in history, like the legendary Maserati 3500 GT, the famous Alpine Renault prototype, and the refined Ferrari 365 GTB4 convertible, made exclusively for actor and racecar driver Steve McQueen.

Our guide in this fascinating laboratory of ideas was Edgardo Michelotti, son of the greatest car designer in the world.

A designer himself, Edgardo has in his own studio the complete archive of the designs by his father Giovanni (1921-1980), author of approximately 1,200 car models – many of them universally considered masterpieces of car design.

Edgardo opened the doors of his father’s forge of ideas to “Italian Ways”, and showed us wonderful sketches and models that had never been shown to the public before, retracing his father’s career through striking anecdotes and personal memories.

Here is the video of the interview: enjoy the journey.
