In the early 1980s, Gae Aulenti (1927-2012) was artistic director at Fontana Arte – founded by Luigi Fontana and Giò Ponti in Milan in 1932, and specializing in the manufacturing of interior decor items and glass making.
And exactly in 1980, the Friuli-born designer had created her classic “Table with wheels”: a 15-millimeter-thick beveled, tempered glass top, mounted on four industrial, swivel caster wheels that could easily move around the house.
Thirteen years later came a variation with bicycle wheels – “Tavolo tour”, now a classic of Italian design, which can roll around any home with its chrome-plated forks and full rubber tires.
Design on the move.
