Enoteca La Torre – awarded a Michelin Star in 2010 and two Gambero Rosso forks – has its extraordinary setting in Villa Laetitia, designed by Armando Brasini in 1911 in the Della Vittoria district, on the Tiber’s right bank.
The building features a mix of Baroque and Renaissance elements, with a large, striking Art Nouveau window letting the light into the main hall.
The restaurant’s menu is curated by Chef Domenico Stile, who being born in 1989 is the youngest starred chef in Rome at the moment. After working under some of the most famous names in Italian cuisine – including Antonino Cannavacciuolo, Massimo Bottura and Gianfranco Vissani – Stile has brought his experience and his Neapolitan roots together at Enoteca La Torre. His passion for Campania, the region where he was born, adds the depth of childhood memories to dishes that celebrate the city he now calls home: Rome.
The restaurant’s two tasting menus are inspired by traveling: “Excursion” is the journey of “a boy who grows up to be a man, and a young cook who grows up to be a chef”; “A trip blindfolded”, instead, tells the story of Stile’s “joy for cooking” through select ingredients, which the chef recommends you taste with your eyes closed.
On the à la carte menu, two specialties really stand out: the lobster with burnt pea peel, sweet potatoes, chinotto and chicken broth, and the greater amberjack with satureja, cauliflower, oysters and champagne.
And while there are over one thousand carefully selected wines in the cellar, and some 150 you can enjoy by the glass, you will have no trouble picking your favorite thanks to restaurant manager and sommelier Rudy Travagli.
