Lombard artist Michelangelo Pistoletto conceived “Cittadellarte” as a place where ideas and creative projects can circulate, to spark a process of “responsible social transformation in society”.
Pistoletto – a leading figure in the Arte Povera movement – founded “Cittadellarte” in 1998, acquiring a former 19th-century wool factory in Biella.
Today, the beautiful industrial archeology complex is under the tutelage of the Ministry of Culture and has become a workshop where artists can come into contact with any field of human activity and with every angle of the social fabric, in order to establish positive communication flows: from education to behavior, from science to religion, from economics to politics.
Every year, in collaboration with the international network it has built over the years, “Cittadellarte” organizes seminars, conferences and exhibitions about artistic practices aimed at transforming the social context in which they are developed.
