The church of San Sebastiano in Isili: “Sardinia’s little Mont Saint-Michel”
The church of San Sebastiano, known as “Sardinia’s little Mont Saint-Michel”, is located on a small limestone island in the waters of an artificial lake, which formed in the 1980s after a dam was built (the Is Barrocus dam on the river Mannu, or “Fluminimannu”, in the municipality of Isili in southern Sardinia).
The church was likely built earlier than the 1500s, but was radically renovated in the 18th century. To visit it, you must have some kind of boat: a canoe is probably ideal! But you can also simply enjoy its beautiful profile, reflected in Lake San Sebastiano, from afar.
