The Benelli 50 Sport at the finish line

The Benelli 50 Sport portrayed in our gallery was manufactured in 1964, when the motorcycle brand founded in 1911 in Pesaro, Marche was at the height of its success.

In the early 1960s, Benelli reached a production goal of 300 motorcycles a day – and the Benelli 50 Sport is a symbol of that golden age for the company.

Then Japanese competitors arrived, the Italian motorcycle market underwent deep changes, and Benelli saw the end of the first “Italian period” in its history.

In the 1970s, it was sold to the Argentinian industrialist Alejandro De Tomaso, starting a series of transitions that would go on until the early 2000s. The most recent episode in this history dates back to 2005, when Benelli was bought by the Chinese Qianjiang Group.
