Leonetto Cappiello and Italian spumante

Cinzano, 1910

And after toasting to the New Year… let’s toast again! This time, with Leonetto Cappiello and the advertisement posters he created for various brands of Italian spumante.

The great Livorno-born illustrator (1875-1942) began his career as commercial artist in the very early years of the 20th century, when he lived in Paris, and quickly achieved global fame as one of the field’s most innovative artists, at par with Italian colleagues like Marcello Dudovich and Leopoldo Metlicovitz.

In our gallery, you will see various brands of Piedmontese wine companies known for their lovely spumante: Gancia (based in Canelli) and Cinzano (Precetto Torinese), Bosca and Robba (both in Canelli) and Sivs (Società italiana vini superiori, in Casale Monferrato).

Cheers!
