Glass masterpieces by Paolo Venini, on show in Venice
“Paolo Venini and his Furnace” is the show Venice has dedicated to the great Milanese entrepreneur (1895-1959), who at one point quit his career as a lawyer to completely focus on his true passion: the art of glass.
Curated by Paolo Barovier, the exhibition will be open until January 8th, 2017 in the “Stanze del Vetro” space – a project by Fondazione Giorgio Cini on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. Since last September 11th, 300 glass works have been selected to best represent the creative talent of this cultured barrister and of the many artists who collaborated with V.S.M. Venini & C., the company he founded in Burano in 1925.
Gio Ponti and Riccardo Licata, Tyra Lundgren and Massimo Vignelli, Piero Fornasetti and Tobia Scarpa, Eugène Berman and Grete Korsmo, Ken Scott and Charles Lin Tissot: these are some of the famous names you will encounter in this Venetian show, besides of course Paolo Venini himself, the undeniable protagonist of Murano’s 20th-century fine glasswork.
